Frequently Asked Questions:
After you register, you will receive a comprehensive FAQ document and access to our Course Portal (generally available by July 1st), which sets things to do in advance of the course and other useful information. The common questions we get prior to registration are set out below:
Q: The courses are in July and August - will that give me sufficient time to study for the MQE?
A: Yes, we offer the courses at what we believe are optimal dates to help you prepare for the MQE. The MQE is on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. When you register for our course, we will send you a detailed list of things to do in advance of the course to ensure you get the most of the weekend. Unlike the CFE, most writers generally take a maximum of two weeks off immediately prior to the MQE. With the prep work we recommend you do in advance of the course, we are confident that you will have more than enough time to prepare, no matter which one of our courses you take!
Q: Are in-person courses being impacted by Covid?
A: We are planning two in-person courses for 2024 - one in Toronto and another in Vancouver. We successfully hosted two in-person courses in 2023 and fully intend on hosting two in-person courses again in 2024. If for whatever reason we can’t hold in-person courses, we plan to make the in-person course dates additional online dates - we will notify you by July 1, 2024 if the in-person courses will be changed to online courses so recommend out of town people do not book travel arrangement until July 1, 2024 - if we can confirm we will be holding in-person courses earlier we will. The foregoing is subject to change by any mandatory closures imposed by the venues we host our courses at, or mandates imposed by government bodies/institutions.
For those of you taking our online course, if you’re apprehensive about taking another online course we encourage you to speak to people that took our online courses in the past - we make the two days as engaging as possible with multiple instructors, and provide comprehensive online resources and support.
Q: Do you offer a course in French?
A: “Oui”, although our course administration and website are only offered in English. We have an amazing French instructor and our course materials are substantially all available in French - points based keys are only available in French for 2015 to 2023 (English keys for 2010 to 2014 will be provided to our French writers). We also offer question marking for French writers.
Our administrative team is not fluent in French, so we appreciate your patience as we do our best to adapt our course for French writers.
Q: I will not receive my marks for the MQE prerequisite courses (or CFA) until August. Can I register and potentially attend the course before I get my marks?
A: The CICBV is scheduled to release marks by Tuesday August 6, 2024. If you are appealing your CBV marks or waiting for CFA marks, in the unfortunate circumstance you do not pass the prerequisite courses prior to attending our course, you can either defer your registration to the following year or receive a refund less a $100 administrative fee (plus applicable taxes). Please note that once we ship you your course package or if you access our Course Portal your registration is non-refundable - accordingly, you should notify us with your registration that you do not want your package shipped.
If your prerequisite marks are unavailable prior to your MQEprep course date, you may attend the course and, in the unfortunate circumstances you subsequently do not pass your CICBV (or CFA) prerequisite courses, you may attend our MQEprep course again the following year for a $100 administrative fee (plus applicable taxes) - no refunds are available once you have attended our course or received your course package or accessed our course portal, even if you are unable to write the MQE.
Q: Where are the in-class sessions held?
A: We have not been able to book in-person course venues yet - we generally use venues in the downtown areas of each city.
Q: What time is the course?
A: Our English online courses all start at 9:30 AM Eastern on both Saturday and Sunday. The course finishes at 5:00 pm on Saturday and 4:00 pm on Sunday. On both days, the instructors will stay after the course to answer any additional questions.
Our French online course starts at 8:30 AM Eastern and finishes at 4:00 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday.
Our in-person courses start at 8:30 AM local time and finish at 4:00 PM on Saturday and 3:00 PM on Sunday.
